A serious leg injury to Josh Munro was the only sour note on a day when all three teams had a home win, and the club held a successful past players lunch to induct a new life member.
The thirds got the day off to a winning start by disposing of Old Westbourne by 10 goals. Nick Bryce led the way in the big man department, while Adrian "Sippner" Spinosa was a short man actiing like a big man upforward booting three goals. The team plays their last game of the 2010 season this week at the Garvey, so for those who cannot make it out to Burwood for the Senior game, feel free to come along and support the boys as they take on the last-placed Whitefriars.
The Reserves continued on their big winning ways of late by dispatching of Prahran. Prahran was on the verge of the four prior to this week, but OPs came out harder, and more determined, letting in only one goal in the first half. It was a further six goals to only four points after the main break which added up to a 97 point victory. Wayne Connelly revelled in t\his role as chief midfielder, while Mitch Fraser and Matty Lomax continued their impressive form since promotion from the thirds, each tackling their opponents like the footy was a $100 note to nick off them. Up forward, Alex Asdagi and "Tommy" Dintinosante prove to be a headache each week for opposition backmen, with vice-like marking and accurate kicking. This week was no exception. The twos currently sit second on percentage, with teams placed first, third and fourth to contend with in the next four weeks. It will be a challenge to keep second and the double-chance, but one they are up for.
Prahran was last-placed coming into the main game, but their position on the ladder belies their attack on the ball, and they provided stiff opposition all day. OPs held a slender lead for most of the day, with the marging never getting out past two goals either way. Steve Rehlicki and Michael Bellizia were excellent in defense, with strong marking and attack on the ball being a hallmark all day. Kieren O"Brien and Sean Miller were the focal points up forward this week, and especially good when the ball hit the deck. The only downside was a serious leg injury for Josh Monro sustained in the second quarter. Everyone at the club sends their best wishes for a speedy recovery. His pace and skill will be missed on the field for sure.
